What does "Chartered" mean?
In Ireland, the names "Physiotherapist" and "Physical Therapist" are not protected by law. This means that those who are NOT qualified physiotherapists can legally use these terms to describe what they do.
The title "Chartered Physiotherapist" and the initials MISCP indicate that a physiotherapist is a member of the professional regulating body, the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists, and has obtained a formal university qualification in Physiotherapy.
Chartered Physiotherapists are recognised by other medical professions and the Department of Health.
